Wanna vs. Gotta & Hafta (Tuesday, April 22, 2008)

DISCLAIMER: this blog is mine & mine alone. Thou shalt not blame family nor friends nor employer for what you may read here.

There are - obviously - things I wanna do, and things I hafta do. Sometimes they're diametrically opposed, sometimes not. Sometimes the drive for the "want to" is as strong as the aversion to "have to". Sometimes...it's just life.

I wanna go to the beach or take the dogs to the park.
I don't wanna go to work.

I wanna go shopping for, or spend money on, something fun.
I don't wanna buy a lawn mower.

I wanna workout.
I don't wanna workout.

I wanna eat dinner but I don't wanna cook. But I gotta.

I wanna be nice, but being naughty can be much more fun.

I like the idea of the "economic stimulus rebate" check.
I don't like the idea of paying taxes.

I like driving really fast. I hate having to pay speeding tickets.

I kinda like the anticipation of waiting for something I really want & have worked for. I'm also a very impatient fucker, and hate waiting. Is this masochistic?

I wanna sleep in tomorrow, but I gotta get up.

I wanna speak my mind, but know I hafta bite my tongue.

I wanna have a few beers & a shot or two, don't wanna deal w/a hangover or headache.

I guess in these ways we're all pretty much the same. C'est la vie. If you're lucky you can fulfill more "wannas" & ditch the "gottas" or "haftas", but we all fight the same battles. It's all about trade-offs & balance in the end.
